States Rights have never been anything outside of giving States permission to do egregious harm and terrorize Black citizens. Those who have advocated for “State Rights” before and after the civil war have a pathological resentment to federal protections against state or corporate sponsored harm to ordinary American citizens.
Many on the political right are still fighting the civil war for corporate (plantation) control of America. Race, sex and religion has been the time-honored corporate tool to rally the huddled masses into drinking the cyanide Kool-Aid of their own destruction.
